Who are we?

We are a small volunteer group of architects, students and architectural workers based in Scotland.

To launch and establish Open Plan Scotland we will initially operate under an organising committee model for 2023.

During the first six months of Open Plan Scotland, the organising committee will develop an operational and governance model for the future, and we will be asking for your thoughts on the most suitable model during Pride Month.

We encourage anyone who would like to get more involved with Open Plan Scotland to get in touch! We’d love to hear from you :)

The organising committee is currently;

Marc Cairns (he/him)
Liam Davies (he/they)
David Galt (he/him)
Catriona Liggat (she/her)
Pavel Pavlov (he/him)
Luca Sode (he/him)
Samuel Stair (he/him)
Bek Ziola (they/he)

You may know us already from our work as the former organising committee of ArchitectureLGBT+ in Scotland between 2021 and 2023.

Get to know us a bit better!

As part of our launch for Pride 2023, we’ve recorded some informal conversations which feature members of our organising committee. We wanted to allow people a chance to get to know us a bit better, understand our own experiences, backgrounds and passions, and hear about why we thought it necessary to form and launch Open Plan Scotland. We hope that this provides some light context for the purpose and people behind Open Plan Scotland, but also allows those who might be unsure if our network is for them, or is hesitant to attend one of our events, an opportunity to ‘meet us’ at their own pace and hopefully feel comfortable to reach out or come along!

We have recorded two episodes so far:

  • Episode One, a conversation with Marc Cairns, Tom Hetherington and Catriona Liggat.

  • Episode Two, a conversation with Samuel Stair and Bek Ziola.

  • Episode Three will be released in the future, and feature conversations between committee members not listed above.

You can listen to the episodes below, or visit our profile on Soundcloud here!

Our sincere thanks to Tom Gilbert for his time and passion in helping us to plan, record and release these recorded conversations. Tom Gilbert (He/They) is a journalist, based in Glasgow and London. He is passionate about queer storytelling and platforming queer creators, meanwhile highlighting the stories that often go overlooked in mainstream media. At the forefront of Tom’s work are accessibility and visibility, bringing elements of his Philosophy and English degree to topics which appeal to a wide audience. As Investigations Editor at The Glasgow Guardian, Tom has overseen a number of in-depth research projects into Glasgow University faculty, student life and policy decisions. We encourage you to view more of Tom’s work here!
