Come along to an afternoon of informal and positive conversation. We will hear from a number of our queer kin across undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD spheres! After presenting their recent work from their studies and research work to us, their supportive like-minded peers, we will celebrate their work through considering its relationship with our own ideas and experiences of queerness within architecture and to general life beyond!

We will hear from:

  • Kirsty Watt (she/her), PhD Candidate - Leeds Beckett University, Co-Founder of Her Collective

  • Ashleigh Rizza (they/them), Undergraduate (Architecture) - Strathclyde University

  • Alex Gardner (he/they) - Postgraduate (Interior Design) - Glasgow School of Art

  • Bek Ziola (they/he) and Samuel Stair (he/him) - Senior Designers, New Practice - Winners of redesign competition for the National Transgender Monument

  • If you are queer student, researcher or worker and would also like to share some of your work with us at this event, send us an email! We’d love to hear from you :)

We want to this event to act as a testing ground for how we can begin to record our ideas and the verbal discourse of queerness. Throughout the discussions, we will facilitate a group zine making exercise, with the outcome of a collaborative document we can all use to recall and share in our own work. We hope that this is the first of many events of this nature!

We welcome all our queer peers to attend, whether from the built environment professions* or not. To ensure that participants feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and experiences, we ask that only members of the LGBTQIA+ community attend this event.

*Planning, urbanism, landscape, technology etc. etc. - this is also you!
