We are Open Plan Scotland.

We are a volunteer led advocacy and support network for all who identify as LGBTQIA+ and study or work across architecture in Scotland.

  • We are a volunteer led advocacy and support network for all who identify as LGBTQIA+ and study or work across architecture in Scotland.

We are launching in June 2023 to coincide with Pride Month, with a presence and opportunities to meet us at Pride events across Scotland!

  • To promote visibility and celebrate the voices and work of LGBTQIA+ members of the architecture community in Scotland.

To support critical dialogue on LGBTQIA+ experiences in architecture in Scotland, and educate and advocate for a more open, diverse and inclusive architecture community.

To provide support and camaraderie for our fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community in architecture across Scotland.

To offer mentorship and networking opportunities for LGBTQIA+ members of the architecture community in Scotland, across (but not limited to) education, practice and academia.

  • Recognising Scotland’s unique geography, and to work and respond to needs across the country, beyond the centralised urban areas and largest cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Listening to the needs of members of the LGBTQIA+ architecture community, and building upon our ethos and work in response.

Being an open and welcoming network for all members of the LGBTQIA+ architecture community, encouraging collaboration, community and custodianship.

Recognising and validating the diverse experiences and backgrounds of members of the LGBTQIA+ architecture community, across (but not limited to) generation, race, religion, class, disability and gender.

A zero tolerance for discrimination, to hold the architecture community in Scotland to account on diversity and inclusion, especially those operating under professional codes of conduct and within major institutions.

Encouraging critical thought and celebrating the work of the LGBTQIA+ architecture community in Scotland, promoting vibrancy, diversity and new futures.

Recognising the existing issues within architecture in Scotland and the challenges faced by members of the LGBTQIA+ community, to offer a supportive network understanding of personal circumstance and needs of discretion.

  • We are a small volunteer group of architects, students and architectural workers based in Scotland.

You may know us already from our work as the former organising committee of ArchitectureLGBT+ in Scotland between 2021 and 2023.

    To launch and establish Open Plan Scotland we will initially operate under an organising committee model for 2023. The organising committee is;

    Marc Cairns (he/him)
    Liam Davies (he/they)
    David Galt (he/him)
    Catriona Liggat (she/her)
    Pavel Pavlov (he/him)
    Luca Sode (he/him)
    Samuel Stair (he/him)
    Bek Ziola (they/he)

During the first six months of Open Plan Scotland, the organising committee will develop an operational and governance model for the future, and we will be asking for your thoughts on the most suitable model during Pride Month.

We encourage anyone who would like to get more involved with Open Plan Scotland to get in touch! We’d love to hear from you :)

  • While we are starting small, we welcome all who would like to get involved, or would like to meet or speak with us, to get in touch! We would love to hear from you!

We want to make sure that we are listening and responding to the needs of our fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community. To do this, we have launched with a survey to get your thoughts and understand your needs and experiences.

We are launching Open Plan Scotland to coincide with Pride Month. We will be visible and present at Pride events across the country, where you’ll be able to come and meet us to say hello, have a coffee or a drink, and join us to march in pride parades should you wish!

Please follow and share our website and social media posts, so that we can grow our network, promote the visibility of our community, and reach those who may need our support!
